Essential Skincare Tips To Be Aware Of
By the time you reach your mid twenties you should be starting to come out of your adolescence skin. Hopefully those teenage spots, or acne if you have it, are starting to disappear.
Whilst this isn’t a post to help you with problem skin, I’ve laid out some essential skincare tips and no-no’s you should be aware of as you enter your twenties and grow into your adult skin.
Sun Protection
The first thing to be aware of is to protect your lovely, youthful skin from the sun.
Most girls in their twenties love the sun and to sunbath; and why not! However, you really do need to be aware of how damaging the sun can be to your skin even at your age.
You don’t see the effects of the sun and sunbathing until you’re in your thirties, or even forties, and you don’t want to get to that point and wish you had taken more care when you were in your twenties.
So even if you’re just going outside and not sunbathing, still wear sun protection lotion on your face and any skin that is exposed to the sun. An SPF of 15 or above should be used all over your skin, but I would go as far to say to wear an SPF of 20 or above on your face.
This will honestly help delay wrinkles as you get older and protect your skin from sun damage and help to protect you from skin cancer.
Sun-Tan in a Bottle
If you want a sun-tan on your face, there are plenty of sun-tans in bottles you can get these days. You can even buy tinted moisturizer which will give you that sun-kissed glow.
Remove Makeup
When you’re in your twenties, most girls love a good night out on the town.
You spend ages doing your hair and putting your make-up on to get them ‘just perfect’. You then have a great night out and come home just that little bit tipsy 🙂
This is when you must take off your make-up.
If you collapse into bed and wake-up the next morning with your make-up still on (well, somewhat!) then you’re doing no favors to your skin.
When you leave makeup on overnight, this is what happens:
- It dries out your skin and clogs it up so it can’t breathe.
- Because of this, you will be more prone to skin breakouts.
- If you do this regularly, your skin won’t have time to renew itself.
- This in turn will lead to dull, unhealthy skin which will age quicker.
So it’s really important to remove your makeup every single night before you go to bed.
Understand Your Skin
What I mean by this is to know what type of skin you have.
Do you have:
- Dry skin.
- Oily skin.
- Combination skin.
- Sensitive skin.
When you know what skin type you have, you can then go and buy skincare products for your particular type of skin.
This is really important because you can cause more damage to your skin if you use the wrong skincare ingredients.
For example, I have sensitive skin and so I have to be very careful what moisturizers and exfoliation products I use on my skin, as I have actually burnt my skin in the past by applying ingredients with harsh ingredients in the products.
So read the labels and the skincare ingredients for your skin type.
Skincare Routine
So taking all of the above into consideration, you really should set yourself up with your own personal skincare routine.
Whilst there are are few things every women should do in a skincare routine, you need to devise one which is suited to you personally.
For example:
- If you don’t wear makeup, then you won’t need to remove it each night as part of your skincare routine.
- If you don’t live in a hot country or like the sun, then you won’t likely need to frequently use SPF lotion.
Here’s a little list of what your skincare routine should look like:
- Wash / cleanse your face in the morning.
- Apply a good moisturizer.
- Use SPF lotion if outside in the sun.
- Take makeup off before bed.
- Cleanse skin before bed.
- Apply a night-time, deep moisturizing lotion.
- Exfoliate once a week.
Anti Aging
From an aging point of view, you should start looking into an anti aging routine now. Yes, you really should start this young to prevent wrinkles and aging skin occurring in the first place.
All of the above points help go towards not just keeping a healthy, glowing skin but to help slow down the skins’ aging process and delay those wrinkles as much as possible.
At this stage there’s no need to go out buying anti-wrinkle products, all you need to do is:
- Have a good cleanse and moisturize each morning and night.
- Use SPF if in the sun, and
- Take off your makeup before bed.
Vitamin C
You could start looking into using a moisturizing cream with Vitamin C included in it, as this really does protect the skin and helps slow down the aging process.
I hope you found this small list of tips helpful and that you realize how important they are to looking after your skin now while it’s still so young and fresh.
These skincare tips are also preventive measures to delay those dreaded wrinkles and sagging skin as you head towards your late 30’s and into your 40’s.
