Since you’ve landed on this blog post I can guess that you’re having weight problems too?  Yes, me as well!  I’ve always struggled with my weight since I was 23 – unfortunately though I’m nowhere near that age now 🙁

So anyway, over the years I’ve looked into weight loss on a much deeper level than just joining Weight Watchers or following the latest diet craze, and this is what I’ve come up with.

These nine habits have honestly helped me immensely, and I hope that you can find some inspiration and ‘hope’ with these nine amazing weight loss tips to help us women lose the weight and keep it off for good…

#1  Form Habits

I know this always seams easier said than done, but it does work if you stick at it.

Most of the time we don’t even realize that we’ve formed a bad habit.  It’s much easier to form a bad habit than a good one!

So what I did was I got out a pen and a notebook, sat down and thought really hard where my bad habits lay.  The list was a lot longer than I would have liked, but it was a start and a realization.

Then next to the bad habit, I wrote the opposite, or an alternative good habit.

The best tip I can give is to make the good habits achievable and doable. Don’t make them far too much out of your comfort zone or you will never stick to that habit.

So for example…

Bad habits:

  • Two biscuits with my mid-morning coffee.
  • No exercise at all.

Replaced by good habits:

  • Have some fruit/yogurt/healthy snack with morning coffee.
  • Go for a 15 minute walk around the block before breakfast.

So something as simple as that for two weeks will start to just feel natural.

#2 Find Your Inspiration

What will inspire you to lose weight and then keep it off for good?

For me, it always used to be to fit into my jeans or that dress again, but to be honest it never worked.

Today, my inspiration is my health and fitness levels and it seems to be working.

If your inspiration isn’t working for you, choose a different reason to lose weight.

#3 Move More

I’ve touched on this above with healthy habits, but it doesn’t have to be as daunting as it first sounds.

I deliberately didn’t use the word ‘exercise’, as you literally just have to move more.

This used to be drummed into us when I used to go to my Weight Watchers meeting a few years ago.

Ways to move more without feeling like exercise:

  • House cleaning to music.
  • Gardening.
  • Dancing round your sitting room to funky music.

I’ve actually started doing the Couch to Fitness 9 week program, it’s free and I recommend it if you’ve never done any exercise for a long while.

#4 H2O

Yes, good old fashioned water!

Aim to drink three glasses more of water than you normally do each day and you will see the benefits.

Water actually does suppress your appetite and its also really good for your skin.

#5 Be Creative in the Kitchen

It’s only natural to keep making the same recipes over and over again.  And it does get boring without us even realizing it.

Make use of Pinterest, YouTube and all those amazing food blogs out there (and there are literally thousands of them!) to find inspiration to make healthy meal alternatives in replace of fatty and unhealthy meals.

Even just swapping out one unhealthy ingredient for a healthy one is a start.

#6 Think Differently

Honestly, this concept is so simple that its unfair!

I’ve been looking into the psychology of how the mind has an effect on your weight and it’s absolutely fascinating, and yet so simple.

Literally choose your thoughts.

Yes honestly!

Instead of unhelpful thoughts (I’m fat and ugly), choose thoughts to help you and not hinder you.

  • I’m excited to be slim again.
  • I deserve to be slim, fit and healthy.
  • I’ll be so much more confident when I’m at my natural weight.

I learned this from the wonderful Brooke Castillo, Life Coach from her ebooks and free Podcasts.

Here’s a podcast by Brooke on thoughts and weight loss…

> Weight Loss & Overeating

Oh and yes, it 100% does work because I’m losing weight without trying or forcing myself.  I’ve now got my subconscious mind on the same side as me and it’s doing all the work for me.

Fascinating and powerful stuff!

#7 Be Mindful

This is actually different to ‘thoughts’ above.

It’s just taking the time to actually think about what you’re eating and when.

Have you ever ate a biscuit (or three) or a packet of crisps etc., and not even realized you’ve eaten them until you’re wiping the crumbs from your mouth?

Yes, me too!

This is the opposite of being mindful.

So by being mindful of when you’re in the kitchen and not popping a biscuit in your mouth can not only save your calories but its also the start of a new habit!

#8 Be Resourceful

Learning and educating yourself is what I mean by resourceful.

Instead of trying to find the next best diet which might work for you, start the educational journey of why you’re overeating in the first place.  You can then work from there to overcome the trigger (demon) that is working against you.

Again, I thoroughly recommend Brooke Castillo’s work and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)

#9 Be Happy!

I know, easier said than done.

But this goes back to #6 above about thinking differently.

If you can learn to be happy now on your weight loss journey, then it will be a lot easier to start thinking differently, replacing old habits with new healthy ones and more importantly, to stop beating yourself up with self-hate and negative thoughts.

The Happiness Trap

I got this book at a local charity shop and it’s literally changed my life, along with Brooke Castillo’s work.

See if you can pick a cheap copy up off eBay or buy a copy from Amazon.

It’s similar to what Brooke teaches and that’s thinking differently but also taking action to start changing your habits and life.

So there you have it, my nine amazing habits of women who have lost weight and kept it off for good – and I’m nearly on that list of women 🙂

As you can see, a lot of these points has to do with your thoughts and your mind and not the latest Weight Watchers promotion or the newest fad diet.

Take control of your mind and it will take care of your weight loss and all the other areas of your life too!

Good luck!
